Book Report: Biography

1. Fill out the top portion of the Book Report Clipboard.   Get parental approval (initials).
2. Read a biography about a famous historical (no longer living) person
3. Fill out the remainder of the Book Report
4. Write important book poem
5. Draw a timeline
6. Prepare a 3-5 minute monologue (speech)

Important Book Poem

• Margaret Wise Brown was the author of a book entitled The Important Book .   Use this as a model and write a poem entitled "The Important Thing" using your famous person as the subject of the poem.
• Use the following guideline when writing your poem:

  The important thing about ______________ is that he was ______ .
  He _____________ .
  He _____________ .
  He _____________ .
  But, the most important thing about ______________ is that he ______ .

• Here is an example:

  The important thing about Sir Francis Drake is that he was an English explorer.
  He was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the world.
  He followed secret orders from Queen Elizabeth as a pirate who attacked Spanish ships and towns.
  He later become Vice-Admiral of the English navy as commanded by the queen.
  But, the most important thing about Sir Francis Drake is that he defeated the Spanish Armada and kept England safe.

Timeline

• Draw a timeline of your famous person's life.
• Show 7-10 important events in the person's life.
• Include colored clip art or drawings for each event.
• You may use the computer to draw your timeline or you may draw it by hand.

Public Speaking Monologue

• Prepare a 3-5 minute monologue (speech), as if you are the person , telling all about your contributions to society and about your life.
• You will dress up (as much as you can) as your person and pretend you are the person.
• Bring in at least one significant prop.
• You will need to rehearse at home.
