Speech: Hobby
Assignment:
Tell the class about your hobby (or hobbies).
Be sure to use 3x5 index cards to prepare your speech – only write 2-3 key words or phrases, not sentences to be used as prompts!
Suggestions:
Use the suggestions on this list to help you prepare your speech. You do not have to include every area in your speech.
If you have a hobby...
- How long you have had this hobby
- How you got started, and what made you interested in the hobby
- Tell what your hobby involves – collection of items, an activity, a money-maker, a sport, supplies needed, time involved when pursuing the hobby, etc.
- Describe your hobby in detail so others who may want to pursue it will have a good idea of what it involves
- Be sure to let the class know if it costs money to pursue this hobby.
- Bring in any parts of your hobby you can share with the class – if your hobby involves an activity, you may want to show the class what you do
If you do not currently have a hobby...
- Find out about a hobby you think might be of interest to you – ask friends who have a particular hobby or look in books
- Find out as much about the hobby as you can so you can describe it in detail to the class
- Include a description of the hobby, supplies needed, time involved when pursuing the hobby, and what made you interested in the hobby.
- Explain to the class why you want to get started with this hobby.
Please check the Speech Schedule, Speech Groups, Speech Evaluation Form pages for additional information about due dates and criteria.
