In the News: We're featured in the Tuesday, June 22, 2005, edition of the Saratoga News. It highlights our Blue Hills Art Docent program! Unfortunately, the photo doesn't match the caption. Pen Pals Picnic: On Tuesday, June 7, 2005, we will be meeting our pen pals from Regnart Elementary School for a picnic at Scully (Kevin Moran) Park. The permission slip was included with the May 27, 2005, Friday Folder. Please return the permission slip ASAP - on the permission slip, indicate whether or not you will be able to attend or provide refreshments.
Parent Letter: A parent letter was sent home on Friday, May 27, 2005. The letter included information about science, math, book orders, and end of the year activities. Please check the sidebar for important upcoming dates and events. Please note a typo in the dates sidebar: June 6 should read "Science Electricity Quiz" - we do have school! The letter is avaiable for download in the parent letters section.
Math Chapter 8 Test: On Friday, June 3, we will be taking the Chapter 8 math test. Students should use the two chapter quizzes as well as classwork and homework assignments and reteach and challenge sheets.
Science Electricity Quiz: On Monday, June 6, 2005, we will be taking a science quiz covering the content from the electricity portion of our science unit. Students were given study guides (green, double-sided copy) the week of May 23, 2005. We will be reviewing the study guide the week of May 30, 2005. You can download a copy of the study guide from the Electricity & Magnetism page.
Demonstration Speech: The Demonstration Speech assignment was discussed in class on Monday, May 23, 2005. You can find the assignment description linked from the assignments page. Speech order sign ups were taken in order of topic submission on Friday, May 27, 2005.
Parent Letter: A parent letter was sent home on Friday, April 15, 2005. Contents: math, science, STAR testing, field trips, reading groups. Please check the sidebar for important dates and events. The letter is available for download in the parent letters section.
Newberry Book Report: The Newberry Book Report assignment was discussed in class on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. You can find the assignment description linked from the assignments page.
Electricty & Magnetism: We have begun our final science unit of the year - Electricity and Magnetism. Some paterials from the classroom science wall (lab titles, key questions, key conclusions, vocabulary) are available on the Electricity & Magnetism page. Ask your child to see the green science notebook information sheet. To access more science resources, please go to the science page which is linked from the resources section of the web site. Don't forget to check out the science standards pages to learn what your child is expected to know in each of the science subject areas. Included in each subsection of the standards are the key concepts and supporting concepts as well as student outcomes (what your student should be able to do).
Math Test: On Monday, April 11, 2005, we took the Chapter 7 math test. In the April 15, 2005 Friday Folder, the test was returned with a coversheet detailing your child's performance in the past chapter. Please review, sign, and return the cover sheet ASAP. A duplicate copy of the coversheet was also included for your own records.
Parent Letter: The Friday, March 11, 2005 Parent Letter was sent home on Friday, March 11, 2005. Contents: math, science, breakfast & a book, reading groups, technololgy, field trips, STAR testing. Check the dates sidebar for important dates and events (note: Art Docent dates & times may change). It is available for download in the parent letters section.
Science Test: The Web of Life Unit Test will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2005. Students will be allowed to use a "cheat sheet" (1 double-sided page where students may handwrite any information they want) for the test. We'll be reviewing important concepts from the unit the week of February 28, 2005. All science notebooks should be complete prior to the review sessions.
Math Chapter 12 Test: We will be taking the Chapter 12 Test on Friday, March 4, 2005. Please use the Challenge and Reteach sheets available from the math resources page. The answer key binder is avaiable for student use in the classroom.

Parent Letter: The Friday, February 4, 2005 Parent Letter was sent home on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 - sorry for the delay! I kept forgetting to send it home with the kids! Included is a list of student names for Valentine's Day cards. Please check the dates sidebar for important dates and events. It is available for download in the parent letters section.
Animal Report: On Wednesday, February 2, 2005 and Thursday, February 3, 2005, the 4th grade classes are being introduced to their integrated science and technology project, a HyperStudio Animal Report, due on Thursday, March 31, 2005. The animal report assignment guidelines are accessible via the assignments section of the webpage. Updated to include map outlines and milestone dates on Friday, February 18, 2005.
Science Resources: I have added an additional resource page to our site - science. On this page, you will find a listing of important vocabulary terms as well as each mini-unit's key questions and sample/beginning answers to help guide your student's focus in science. The vocabulary terms and key questions are posted on the wall throughout the unit. The science resources page is accessible via the resources section of the webpage. Updated to include answer blurbs on Wednesday, February 2, 2005. Notebooks due week of February 28, 2005. Unit test week of March 7, 2005.
Chapter 5 Math Test: We took our Chapter 5 math test on Thursday, January 27, 2005. Tests were returned to students on Wednesday, February 2, 2005. Please review the test with your student and return the signed white page ASAP.
Mid-Trimester Progress Reports: Progress Reports were sent home with the weekly Friday Folder on Friday, January 21, 2005. Students with below grade-level progress in the content areas of Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies in adidtion to the lifelong learning skills of Work Habits and Citizenship will receive a progress report. The progress report is to be used as a guide for the student to focus his/her learning to ensure he/she is making significant progress in the marked areas for the remainder of the second trimester and does not necessarily mean the student is at-risk-for-retention. Please review the report with your student and return the signed (by both student and parent) form ASAP. If you have any questions, please email me.

Chapter 4 Math Test: We took our Chapter 4 math test on Friday, December 17, 2004. Please review the test with your student and return the signed white page.
Report Cards: 1st Trimester report cards were sent home with the weekly Friday Folder on December 3, 2004. Students with overdue library books did not receive yet receive report cards. In order to receive their report card, overdue library books must be turned in to Mrs. Rader. Please take the time to review your child's strengths and areas of focus. Retain your copy of the report card, but please return the envelop ASAP.

Science Parent Volunteers: Thanks to all the parents who have answered my appeal for help during science time! To help alleviate some of the confusion of who will be volunteering during each period, I have added science volunteer sign-ups to the class calendar. Sorry for all the confusion!

Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.) Pages: Due to popular demand for the weekly D.O.L. sentences, they have been uploaded and made available for download from the site. The Word Documents can be downloaded from the D.O.L page which is linked from the resources section. Thanks to Mrs. Novakovich for giving me the idea of making the D.O.L. pages available for additional practice!
Reading Lists: I've uploaded a PDF file of books that include 4th grade reading level (according to Fountas and Pinell). Thanks to Mrs. Case for helping to scan the pages! Also, there is a link for you to check out the California STAR recommended reading list for your child. You can click through to the reading list in the resources section.
Chapter 2 Math Test: We took our Chapter 2 Math Test on Thursday, October 14, 2004. The corrected tests were returned as part of your child's Friday Folder. Please review the test with your child and return the signed test ASAP. Students can download and complete the reteach pages from the supplemental math worksheets for additional review and practice.
Parent/Teacher Goal Setting Conferences: Conferences will be held between Monday, October 11, 2004 and Tuesday, October 19, 2004 - school will be on an adjusted schedule from 8:00am to 12:30pm. Included in Friday's folder is your assigned conference time - please return the confirmation or change request ASAP. If you have not returned the parent goals sheet, please do so in the next few days. Thanks!
